Nkem Ani, APN, PMHNP-BC
Hello, my name is NP Nkem. I am a caring and passionate Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with 10+ years of experience in the healthcare/ public health field. I understand how resilient and strong human spirits are as they can overcome so many challenges of the past and create the life they want to live. I take a holistic approach toward making sure that the patient’s mental health needs are met. I am also passionate about the benefit of initiating psychotropic medications if needed. I collaborate with patients on what treatment plan will yield the expected health outcome. Medications are chosen based on the brain chemistry we are targeting. If an agent is not providing the relief sought, I work with the patient in exploring other agents. I care for patients 11 years of age up to 70 years old.

Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation
If you are interested in medication management within our practice, the first step would be to sit for a psychiatric evaluation. This formal 60 minute interview will be with one of our prescribers, where they will collect historical and clinical data in order to diagnose emotional, behavioral or developmental disorders.
This is also an appropriate time for you (the client) to discuss your current concerns and potential questions you may have surrounding psychiatric medication and the medication management process.
We are currently offering services for children, teens and adults.
Medication Management with or without Supportive Therapy
The medication management process entails regular visits with your prescriber in which any psychiatric medication prescribed, is reviewed. This ensures that appropriate changes can be made in a timely manner, potential side effects can be accounted for and attended to, and if needed, dosage changes can also be made.
We understand that sometimes psychotherapy alone is not enough to manage mental health symptoms and provide a safe environment in which you can explore additional medicinal support.
Although we always recommend that medication management be coupled with supportive therapy, on a case by case basis we do allow clients to explore medication options without the supportive therapy component.
Please note that the practice and prescribers reserve the right to decline medication management services without supportive counseling if it is deemed to not be in the best clinical interest for the specific client.
