Identity Exploration & Coming Out
Our society tends to promote strict guidelines on who people should be. Some of these expectations pertain to who we love and what gender we were assigned at birth. However, often times those guidelines do not fit, which can leave people feeling confused and overwhelmed. There is also continued stigma against the LGBTQ+ individuals which may make you feel like you’re a bad person or that your love is shameful.
We can help you create a safe space of acceptance. We will reflect on all the messages you have received about gender and relationships from your family, culture and society. We can identify the things that make you worried or confused about your identity and work on finding what feels most authentic for you. The goal is to help you make peace with you are.
Parents of LGBTQ+ youth
All parents have some expectations about their children’s future. Shifts in your child’s sexual orientation or gender identity can be difficult because they often differ in the assumptions that organize the parent-child relationship. Many parents struggle with their feelings, even if they are fully supportive of their child.
Parents often need a place to vent their concerns, get information, mourn their previous expectations and explore potential new challenges with extended family members. This adjustment process is different for everyone and is best done in an environment where reactions won’t negatively impact your child. We can provide that space for you as well as work with the family as a whole. The goal is to reduce tension & increase understanding.
